The BC TEL MultiMedia Gateway speedtest is written in Java and enables you to determine how long it takes your computer to download a file. Your rate of speed will be expressed in megabits (or kilobits) per second. Your maximum rate of speed is 4 Mbps per second. Keep in mind that your reading can be affected by the following factors:
New and fast computers process downloads more quickly than older machines.
Your results will be affected if you are also performing intensive Central Processing Unit work at the time of the test.
Your throughput speed may be slower if there is heavy traffic on the Internet.
If you have a local area network (LAN) in your home, it could impede the flow of data to your computer, thus resulting in a slower throughput.
